Welcome Student,
I am pleased that you are interested in attending a United States Service Academy. Contained within this web site is an application form to request a nomination from the 16th Congressional District (El Paso, TX), information you will need to provide to your three references, and a list of area service academy contacts.
To improve your chances of receiving an Appointment to one of the Service Academies you should apply for ALL Nominations to which you are entitled. Click on the Contacts page for addresses of other Congressional Nomination sources.
The following information must be received in my El Paso office by the second Friday in December, the year prior to admission (i.e. Senior year of High School). You may submit an application as early as March 1st of your Junior year. Not all students who attend El Paso area high schools are residents of the 16th Congressional district. Therefore, if you are not sure of the district where you live, please Click here and follow the instructions to determine your appropriate district.1) Completed Application Form. Be sure to complete your essay, and rank the academies in order of your preference. You must rank ALL academies. This is required to maximize your opportunities for nomination. Important! Be sure to include your e-mail address. If you do not have one, you should get permission to use an active e-mail address at your school or one used by a friend.
2) SAT/ACT Test Scores. Use the recipient code (SAT 6078 ACT 7000) when you register, and copies of your scores will be sent directly to my office. It is advisable that you take the test as soon as possible for purposes of early reporting and optional re-examination.
3) Nomination Recommendation Submission. Three (3) recommendations must be submitted on your behalf. Your high school math and English teachers must author two of the submissions. You may wish to ask your principal, counselor, a church leader, employer, or someone who knows you well (not a relative) to submit the remaining recommendation. After you have completed your application, click on "Recommendations" and follow the directions given there. Be sure to provide your Application Identification number that will be issued to you after you submit your application to anyone making a recommendation.4) Official High School Transcript (and college transcript, if applicable ), reflecting most current course work and grades. Ask your high school to submit your official transcript and scores to your file. Application Identification number will be needed to add scores and transcripts that will be issued to you after you submit your application
5) Link to Academy's Web Page. Contact each academy and make an application directly to each of the four academies. An early application will enhance your opportunity to garner an Appointment. A Service Academy Appointment provides an educational experience the equivalent of a scholarship worth approximately $300,000.
Depending upon the total number of applicants, you may be contacted by members of my Academy Advisory Committee or my staff to set up a personal interview. Each year I will announce the Nominations for my district in February of the admissions year. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Karl McElhaney in my district office at 534-4400 or one of the Academy Field Representatives listed on the contacts page. Remember to improve your chances of receiving an Appointment to one of the Service Academies you should apply for ALL Nominations to which you are entitled.
